Each day inspires
a feeling of new life, new energy, and a new opportunity for a day
of adventure. It just all depends on what kind of adventure you seek.
Explore the countryside on a scenic drive or hike, picnic by a tranquil
waterfall, shop in the many stores for uncommon treasures, or sit
on the porch of an inn and rock the day away. You can do as little
or as much as you want in Polk County. |

For scenery, take Houston Road out
of Columbus (stay right at fork), turn left onto White Oak Mountain Road and drive to the top, passing Shunkawauken Falls. Continue
on the gravel road to Sunset Rock with its expansive views. Spend a few minutes and snap a photo, then head back the way you came.
Take Silver Creek Road out
of Mill Spring and loop, going up either Holbert's Cove Road or Green
River Cove Road, and then down the other. It's a nice rural ride with
both river and mountain vistas.

A tall waterfall near the top of White Oak
Mountain. The road cuts through the falls and is narrow with minimal
pull-outs. Be very careful, if you decide to stop.

The trail to Big Bradley Falls is part of an unmarked, untended section of the Green River Game Lands - a rugged tract of land owned by the state for hunting and fishing. Hike at your own risk - the trail is primitive and requires crossing the stream. Proper hiking shoes required. The trail is especially dangerous at the top of the falls. Do not attempt to hike to the bottom. Exit 59 off I-26 on Holbert's Cove Road (away from downtown Saluda). Go 3.4 miles to bottom of gorge. Watch for unpaved parking area on left, just before you cross the stream. The unmarked trail starts at at the orange gate.
