Welcome to the Dog Days of Summer at the First Peak. Things are a little quieter around here in August, which leaves you plenty of time to visit waterfalls, tour a plantation home, and taste local wines. Or just lounge on a fabulous porch of one of our historic B&Bs to read a book or nap. Things pick up in September, so take advantage of this lovely lull!

Cool Water Adventures for a Hot Summer Day
Yep - it's hot! Make a plan to cool yourself off with one of our wonderful water attractions.
Take an easy walk through the shady glen to Pearson's Falls. The temperature drops as soon as you hit the trail. Take a picnic with you, or a great book, and spend time next to the 90-foot waterfall. The mist and the sound of the rushing water are sure to refresh you.
Have you been tubing on the Green River? Bring the family to float lazily through light rapids. Choose a half or full-river float trip in the cool water. Or if you're up for more adventure, book a guided inflatable kayaking trip with Green River Adventures - choose from beginner trips and ones for adventure seekers. Have fun! Read More...

Wine and Horses - Even More Labor Day Events!
Labor Day weekend will be filled with great events in downtown Tryon, but there's more going on nearby. Two more big events celebrate the rich equestrian and vineyard history that Tryon is known for. Pick and choose your favorite events to enjoy the 'Best of the First Peak' during this holiday weekend:
- Green Creek Winery 5th Anniversary Celebration: Come and celebrate with one of our favorite wineries. Enjoy the scenic vineyard views combined with live music, food and wine tasting.
- Dancing Under the Stars at the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center: this is a great evening event filled with non-stop music, dancing and all things equestrian! Performances include hunter rider, jumper rider, dressage, carriage driving, barrel racing and a special demonstration from the students who benefit from this fundraising event - Therapeutic Riding of Tryon (TROT). The evening includes live music, clogging and a square dance at the end for everyone. Full dinner or general admission tickets are available.
