The Polk County Courthouse is listed on the National Historic Register. It is a majestic, brick building in the Greek Revivalist style, located in the heart of downtown Columbus. The Courthouse was built between 1857 and 1859 using bricks made of native clay. It has been in continuous use since that time. Great care has been taken to restore the character and charm of the structure both inside and out. A Civil War Trail marker stands outside the courthouse describing historic events occurring in this area during Stoneman's Raid in 1865. When you visit, be sure to experience this important part of Polk County's rich history and heritage.
