Spring Fling Community Dance
Put on your dancing shoes and come to Stearns Gym in downtown Columbus for this year's Spring Fling Community dance! The dance features many different styles of "Old Time" and community dancing, but will focus primarily on Contra dancing.
The music will be "Old Time" mountain string band music including fiddles, guitars, mandolins, banjos and upright bass. Tunes are played in the "Old Time" way, much like jazz where a simple and very basic melody is improvised by each instrument making the music extremely rich and complex. The group Local Produce featuring Tryon's Doug Rostick will provide the music.
The caller/dance leader, Becky Walter has years of calling experience and specializes in community dance. She will use calls from a variety of traditions including contra, round, country and square dances.
Come join the centuries old tradition of community dancing. Enjoy an evening of unequaled recreation and fellowship. The Spring Fling Dance is open to all for a donation. Refreshments will be available. Child care for infants and toddlers also is available. Bring the entire family for an evening of fun and fellowship. For more information call the Congregational Church at 828-859-9414.
